Aldwych Underground Station

Once a year, the London Transport Museum (with Transport for London) opens up the long-abandoned Aldwych tube station on The Strand to the public.  We were fortunate enough to snag tickets for this extremely unique event.  Despite hearing many stories last year about DSLR cameras not being allowed on the tour, I decided I’d chance it anyways.  Lucky for me, there were not problems whatsoever, and I managed to snag some views of the incredible space.

Worldwide Photo Walk 2012

After having so much fun last year with Justin van Leeuwen in Ottawa, we decided again to take part in this year’s Worldwide Photo Walk.  Our walk leader this year was the highly-talented Tom Bourdon.  Check his stuff out – he’s taken amazing photos all around the world.

The walk in London took us through Battersea Park, and into parts of Chelsea.  The weather held out for most of the walk, though the warm pub at the end of the walk was a welcome site!

Here’s a selection of the photos I took on the walk.  Click the photo to see more:

Day Trip to Oxford

With a friend in town for a visit, we decided to take a day trip up to Oxford to see the sights…  We explored a couple of the old colleges, and also had a punt around the canal.

London 2012

This weekend, we managed to (finally) get involved in the Olympics.  Granted, it was a free event, in a park, but it was great to catch some of the action.  We got to see the Women’s Triathlon, consisting of a 1500m swim, a 43km bike ride, and a 10km run.  We were well-positioned for the biking portion, but didn’t see the swimming, and only caught glimpses of the running.

London Roller Girls Double-Header 19May

It had been almost three months since our last derby bouts, so I was more than happy to be able to shoot this double-header.  Even better, I got to shoot from the centre of the track for the first time.  A very cool experience…

The bouts saw Edinburgh’s Auld Reekie take on the London Roller Girls`Suffer Jets, followed up by LRG’s Harbour Grudges vs Steam Rollers.

Burns Guitars

My band that I left back home in Canada, The Reverb Syndicate, is coming over to join me in the UK in April for our second UK tour…
As a bit of an homage to The Shadows, we bought Burns guitars and basses.
Here’s a quick snapshot of them together…

London Roller Girls Double-Header

Well, we’ve been living in the UK almost four months now, and only just made it to our first roller derby bout!  (To be fair, I think there’s only been one or two since we got here).

The UK derby teams sure know how to put a game on.  They had bean-bag chairs, people.  Bean-bag chairs!  Amazing.

The first game saw the Central City Roller Girls from Birmingham take on London’s Harbour Grudges.  Game two was a nail-biter, with Steam Rollers narrowly beating out the Ultraviolent Femmes.

Cowdray Castle

Spending the day in the English countryside, we came across this lovely abandoned castle that had burned down in 1798.

Christmas in South-Central France

We had the pleasure of spending Christmas with family in South-Central France.  The weather was amazing, so the holidays consisted of daily hikes in and around the countryside.
